Brooke Mathewes, M.Ed is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), A Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and now a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) who can help individuals, youth, couples, and families untangle life's many challenges.
Brooke has unique and diverse experience as she has worked in a variety of community agency and hospital settings before establishing her own practice, Meadowbrook Counselling Services. In addition to her private practice, Brooke is now a Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) certified trainer. She works closely with Dr. Scott Miller and offers consultation and guidance for agencies, health authorities and private clinicians implementing and using FIT in their practice.
Brooke is currently working in private practice in the River North neighbourhood in Chicago, Illinois and is also a Faculty Lead and Consultant at a residential treatment centre to further her training in family systems, complex trauma, eating disorders, mood disorders, and substance use. She will continue to accept new clients for telephone/video counselling from Canada and in the US. It might seem unusual to consider counselling that is not in person, but it is a growing trend and very convenient to do your personal work from the comfort of your own home or office.

Life has a funny way of throwing us all unexpected curve balls when we least expect it. For many people, the counselling process is about accessing professional guidance and support to tackle these challenges. From relationship conflicts, to understanding our own thoughts and feelings in a healthier way, to navigating through grief, loss, and sometimes addiction and mental health, counselling has the potential to be beneficial for anyone.
Brooke's role as a counsellor is to be an objective source of support to her clients. A voice to help clarify goals and make changes that have often felt out of reach or too challenging to face alone. Our brain processes information differently when we speak out loud. A major benefit of talk therapy is that thoughts and feelings that have been locked inside get processed in a different way when shared. It is the therapists job to remain neutral, objective, and focused. Although she is guided by a variety of therapeutic approaches and perspectives, each person‘s journey through counselling will be unique and tailored to their specific needs and concerns. Brooke uses Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT), a way of tracking whether or not counselling is actually helping session to session. This allows her to adjust and make changes in the moment to ensure that you are getting the best care possible and to create a space where changes can be made in real time.
If counselling is helping, you should notice a positive change in how you are feeling about the issues you are addressing. The problems themselves may not disappear but how you feel about them should improve. There should be a sense that life is getting better and you feel more equipped to tackle the stresses that in the past have gotten in the way, and maybe even led to destructive behaviours.
